Cat Costumes Pattern
I’m in need of 1850s American (Southern) costume guidance. Details inside.?
In October I will be playing a background prostitute for a local historical site’s annual Halloween historical ghosts tours. I’ve been trying to research what loose women would have worn at the time, the 1850s, in the South in a middle-class house. I don’t know much about the time frame because I don’t concentrate much in that costume area.
I need to know if Koshka the Cat’s 1820- 1840 corset pattern would be too much of a stretch in the time frame to wear or if I should just go with the Simplicity pattern (which was highly recommended by another seamstress at the site). If everything goes correctly, I will be sewing a corset, a skirt, a chemise and a mantle or blouse of some sort which will be left to hang open. So, the corset will be seen.
So, Koshka or Simplicity?
PS: Any good free patterns online I can work with for the rest of the costume? Thanks!
I’m not sure about patterns and stuff, but Storyville in New Orleans was a very famous area of the city. If you can find any books about it wherever you live, they’ll surely have photos.
