Cheshire Cat Costume Tim Burton
The eccentric, Tim Burton, pairs once again with the eclectic, Johnny Depp, delivering a sequel to Disney’s original, Alice in Wonderland that is amazing and one of a kind. I am extremely mad about Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland 3D (Rated PG). Not mad in an angry way but mad in a crazy about it way.
In my opinion, this film was well worth the $27 it cost for my two children and me to see it on the 3D big screen. It hit theaters on this very important date, March 5, 2010. Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is a visually stunning masterpiece of fantasy in 3D that is already a huge box office hit.
Burton has succeeded in making a wildly entertaining, unique film that will not disappoint fans. The theater was packed and we sat in the front. I was astounded by the reality that 3D brings to the screen. It felt as if I was inside Wonderland aka Underland and I jumped a couple of times when it appeared an object was going to hit me in the face. There were some funny parts. I appreciate the madness and love that Alice’s father encouraged imagination.
It is not the storyline that is so enthralling so much as the curious characters of Alice in Wonderland. From the clothed white rabbit to the Tweedles, Burton’s character depictions are magnificent. The Red Queen of Hearts (Helena Bonham Carter) has a very disproportionately large head and has no problem shouting “off with their heads.” The Mad Hatter (Depp) has some very funky colored eyes, make-up and costume. I was disappointed there was no ‘un-Birthday’ celebration. The blue hookah smoking caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat were two of my favorite characters.
This was my first experience watching a film in 3D on the big screen. We arrived early since I was unsure how big the turn out would be. It was not sold out but I have read other Alice in Wonderland reviews that have said the movie was sold out. All work and no play is often how I have to roll. It was nice to have this fantasy film to look forward to and it was better than I imagined.
My daughter said her least favorite part of Burton’s Alice in Wonderland was the beginning, before Alice falls down the rabbit hole, during the stuffy engagement party. Neither my son nor daughter (ages 7 and 9) could pick a favorite part, they “liked the movie a lot.” The March Hare, Alice and the White Queen (Anne Hathaway) were my daughter’s favorite characters.
The only qualm I had about seeing Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in theaters is the parent that decided to bring their crying infant and the person behind me that kept tapping on the back of my seat with his foot. Sorry, I just don’t think it’s considerate to bring infants unless you are certain they will be quiet and if you cannot console them, you should step out. Patrons should respect those seated around them.
I give Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland 3D 10 stars and recommend it to all. 3D in theaters is an amazingly life-like film watching experience. A wonderful escape for those of us who are mad and as Alice is fond of saying, “all the best people are.”
