Dog Costume For School Play

Q & A with Patrick Boivin
Throughout our lives relatively young as a video sharing website for people with taste, can Openfilm show the work of some great artists, but to discover. One of our most exciting was the French-Canadian writer, director and animator Patrick Boivin. From his zany, battle-bot, shorts stop-motion animation to live action to work more seriously, Boivin has definitely raised the bar for everyone in Openfilm. In this interview, we talk about how and where it goes from here.
Q: What interested in film? Have you been working on other types of art before you start making films?
A: My first approach was the comic art. I learned to draw just to be able to tell stories. Then I discovered it was faster to tell stories with a camera. By chance, I got into the movie when I was changing and becoming more accessible with digital video cameras and computer editing. I learned to use these tools as were developed. Also, since I never went to film school, nobody told me that I was not going to do everything. Somehow, that became an advantage because they can understand every step of the process and, sometimes, the creation of film entirely on my own for fun.
Q: Your films are filled with striking images, often involving the distinctive makeup and costumes. How do you work with your team to get images in your head on the screen?
A: In fact, for many of my recent work I did on my own. But I usually make very specific plans, and then I'll turn my film, once with a mini DV camera, with one actor and then edit it as a first draft. If I were happy with it, I'm using as a prototype and show it to all key members of the crew. "I can choose the photographs of the film to create a precise storyboard for shooting.
Q: What challenges are presented in collaboration with the animation instead of action live?
A: I have to answer that question in two different types. The first is Patrick Boivin prepares a lot for their proposed actions in vivo. The second is Mr. Mr. Boivin, a young mentally retarded encouraging toys for the Web only to have a reason to buy and destroy a part. If I have an idea, I can buy the toy and start thinking about all the shots without trying them first. Since I did much stage, with a story or two minutes of animation with all clear in my plans mind, it's easy. And if I stay a shot every time you go to find one or two hours alone in my apartment. "I can change history, and things change slowly throughout the process. A true leader would have a great time laughing at me when I do my stuff in the corner of my dining table. The downside of this is that sometimes I regret the decisions I've done before. When I hit really sorry, I will. But as it is something I do for fun, I'm not in me and I understand a lot of mistakes in the final cut.
Q: Your work has a tendency Confederate flags Jazz policies sometimes a general problem with the dead political center of the grain-brain. What is your philosophy about art and politics mix?
R: I am very interested in what happens in the world today. An important part of my mind day to day politics and human beings. So when developing a story, I think that these concerns are naturally in place. And, of course, these concerns sometimes lead stories. But this is not something that I feel obligated to. It is part of the process and have good ideas is so difficult that I did not miss a correctness. As for policy reasons for the Confederate flag in my last movie, it all started with the desire to invent a transformer. So I had to find a cool car! I have 34 years, and when I was a kid, my favorite car was the General Lee in "The Dukes of Hazzard. "I thought from the beginning that part of the Confederation of the car embarrass some people. Even thinking about getting the voice of a black actor known for say what General Lee, just to add more confusion. When he was ready to lead the segment in which he spoke, I thought that Michael Madsen, who plays the villain Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs. Thus, the General Lee, Decepticon of the Confederation, is in fact Mr. Rubio, evil maniac, Reservoir Dogs, kill one of my favorite Autobots with Confederate flag – a weapon in an unfair fight. All this to say that when you feel you have a great idea, you can easily lost in the explanations and justifications. Ultimately, I personally think that the only thing that matters is being comfortable with your own sensibility. Doing things please sprinkle all over the world all over.
Q: The National Endowment for the Arts in the United States is not an organization funded by the property. Could you talk about the Canadian system and how government subsidies helped finance his work?
R: I am not knowledgeable about the system of arts funding in other country, I will not try to make comparisons, but I think in Canada, we managed to find good ways to help artists during the past 20 years. But is it really difficult to get funding for any project, because I feel the budget is not enough cultural. Besides, I live in a French reality here in the province of Quebec, where the market is small. We are a little over 7 million dollars and our French films do not travel much, so that private financing is virtually nonexistent. And, more importantly, the current government is committed a campaign to reduce funding in the cultural sector. That's what my film cuts, Culture March issue. It was an announcement made shortly before the federal election that was in Canada in October. Personally, 90% of what I did over the past 15 years has been funded independently.
P. PhylactereCola is the name of one of its channels in Openfilm, but it is also the name of a television program who has been involved in. Could you talk about the series?
A: "Phylactère Cola" is a television program French Canadian aired in 2002-2003. There were nine of us do everything from placing quality construction. I was the director, DP, cameraman, editor and coordinator of FX. A team member, Strobe, specializing in 3D and makeup. Another, Eric Pfalzgraf, was the sound designer and composer of music. Everyone had a specialty. An important thing to mention is that we are all designers. This is how we are in the beginning. Since we started the project as a hobby since the many years before doing it for television, we more than 400 sketches. This was my school.
P. What's on the DVD is being sold in the href = PhylactereCola the website of "http://www.phylacterecola.com/>?
R: This is the second full season of the series, plus some extras like making-of.
P. Radio the film is probably better than anyone has been transferred to Openfilm now. When the idea Cinema?
A: Wow! I'm glad I like it! One day, during a drive, one of my friends – who was also a team member Phylactère Cola – said he had an idea for a new type of radio hearing broken, but was careful not to do something with it. It was my birthday and I asked him to give me this idea. Ten projects later, I shot five production days. Eric Pfalzgraf took over all the pieces of audio, including the beautiful music he made with another great composer named Alexis Lemay.
Q: What films or directors inspire you?
R: It changes a lot. I think the work Roy Andersson, who had Songs from the second floor, and Paul Thomas Anderson's what I'll be expecting more in the coming years. But to be honest, I think Tom Waits is my greatest inspiration. Oh, and my favorite movie of all time is 8 1 / 2 by Federico Fellini.
Q: What films and projects are you working?
A: I just finished two films in the same plane as the radio. One is a love story. The other is the story of the death of a clown discover that became a zombie. And I'm working on mounting a 30-minute film science fiction with a lot of FX work. He also worked on four films. The most classic is expected to be shot in May For the stop-motion, I I'm finished with it for a while. He started as a fun hobby, but the latter took much longer than I expected. There are many things I like to experiment in life, and I know that if I managed to live another 50 years, will not suffice. So when I do, I try to be as intense as possible, which sometimes leaves large gaps in my adult life responsibly.
