I don’t understand why some dog owners…..?
….would pick out a puppy which they love, most picking out the puppy because it is cute and/or they love his/her markings, and then decide to dye that same pup when it gets older. If you don’t like the dog’s color, why get the dog in the first place? I understand that some would want to dye the pet for Halloween, but I still don’t think that’s a good reason to do it.
Can someone give me a reasonable explanation for this please?
I’m not writing a thesis on this or anything, no research needed! I have observed enough from coming to this forum to see that some people just don’t care about their dog’s well being. They only care about how their dog looks, and what people think. I am referring to those who get a dog because it is so cute and everyone else has one, then dresses the dog up, carries it around like a toy, etc..etc..
Ggbby, my name is Missy, my dog’s name is Caeser. : )
You know, I’m really starting to wonder why people have dogs in general, considering they’re majorly incapable of providing properly or making informed decisions.
Didn’t you know? Dogs aren’t working partners or companions anymore….they’re the falls HOTTEST accessory. And, if your dog doesn’t match your outfit, people will shun and spit on you. Hell, I’ve got a different colored doodle for every day of the week.
EDIT: Aww…look at all the TD’s. It’s called sarcasm, geniuses.
EDIT II: The ‘harm’ is that is perpetuates the mindset that our dogs are accessories. It’s indicative of anthromorphism. It’s indicative that the human is projecting human behaviors and thought processes onto the canine, and that the dog is treated as an object.
Take all the people that dye their dogs, and stick them in a room. Ask each one what their particular breed was developed for, and I guarentee, 90% won’t know.
this girl i knew died her poodle pink. i almost threw up, needless to say, the next colored poodle i see, the owners sure to get a drop kick to the throat. lol its so stupid/ugly
EDIT; Rachel pit is so right, like puggles?common, everyone wants whats hot, its like the coolest pair of sneakers around here, ticks me off. For a while, every girl around here had to have a "ppocket dog" or what ever those mutations are, and now a year later its not cool, those dogs get little or no attention anymore.
I don’t know of anyone who dyes their dog a color on a regular basis, if that’s what you mean. I do know people who from time to time will dye their dog a fun color, but the process is literally no worse than getting a bath. The dye is a non-toxic vegetable based dye and washes out in a couple weeks. No harm to the dog, physically or emotionally.
Just make sure you do your research before you make a general statement about all people who ever dye their dog a color.
I guess I’m really confused…so the majority of people here think that dying a dog any color for any reason, as well as putting any type of decoration on it other than a simple plain undecorated collar is disgusting and inhumane? I’m not trying to be critical, I just find this really fascinating that so many people have such a one-sided view on this. Of course if someone was getting human hair dye and dying their white chihuahua black or whatever, then yes, that is intolerable and unacceptable. But for a dog that is accustomed to being groomed (like a poodle), the process of dying their fur with a vegetable based nontoxic dye is no more harmful than the monthly bath. Not to mention, I guess people who have little dogs like chihuahuas should never put sweaters on them to keep them warm, because that is cruel as well.
Because they dont’ sell pink dogs? No idea to be honest.
I’m sorry but there is absolutely no reasonable explanation for this. This is yet another case of people treating their dogs like barbie dolls or accessories. Dogs are not meant to be carried in purses, have their toe nails painted, or have their hair dyed. It is unhealthy. Dogs have very sensitive skin and hair dye is HORRIBLE for it. People who do this kind of thing to their dog should not be allowed to have dogs!!! Its cruel.
I don’t dye my hair let alone my dog’s. But I would imagine that if you’re the sort of person to dye your own hair then it’s natural and normal to you to dye a dog’s hair. I have no idea-I don’t get it either.
isnt that cruel in a way, like animal testing, but people dye their hair diferent colours, so maybe its because its quite unique, but i think its silly, like you said you buy a dog because of its looks dont change them
These are living breathing animals that you have as companions- they are not entertainment or a outsource for your boring lives. Pick up a magazine- anyone- you will see some stick thin blonde with a tiny dog stuffed in a ugly purse wearing a stupid hat. To people today dogs are not mans best friend- they are women’s ACCESSORY! Who can get the tiniest dog? Who pays the most for puppy clothes!! its sickening.
sorry i didnt answer your question- more of a vent.
Personally, I don’t see why some people are so judgemental. So long as it’s done safely with nothing toxic, I don’t see the harm. I don’t see the sense in it either, but then I’m sure some of what I do makes little sense to others.
If it doesn’t harm the dog and is no more traumatic than your average bath, what is the harm?
Now, as to the chick wanting to dye her brown dog pink, I don’t see how that can be done… least not without any harmful, nasty chemicals. That’s a different ball of wax entirely. But taking your white dog and dipping it in koolaid, what’s it matter?
People are ridiculous and there is no sane explanation for dying dogs, cropping ears and bobbing tails. I feel for these poor innocent pets.
if you really love your dog then you will want to pamper your dog and give it treats and lots of dogs would love the attention they would get for being different colours.
The way I see it, people who dress their dogs etc, do it because the dog becomes an accessory, not a pet. I just wonder what they do with them when they get out of the cute puppy stage.
Because these adults would look foolish playing with Barbie Dolls anymore so they move on to living creatures to dye and dress up how they want. It’s pathetic if you ask me.
And btw… Puggles are soooo in still! I mean look at this face, who wouldn’t want one?!

(And FYI she is not really a puggle, shes a pure bred heinz 57 mutt. People just seem to assume shes some puggle thing)
Their life is so boring and pointless that they have to ruin their dogs life too. I hate people like that. They do these things and then wonder why their dog acts out and terrorizes everyone. I saw this lady on TV last night (on "It’s me or the dog") Who said "I would rather get rid of my husband and son than get rid of my dog!" Whoa! This is the same lady who dressed the dog up and gave it human tea and ice cream and cookies. These people should not be allowed to have animals. That is animal cruelty and should not be tolerated.
The ONLY dog I have ever seen died is a poodle… which i really don’t like anyway (baggege from my mom’s dog) but standard ones are good.
I did see a pet grooming show on tv and they died one of the white dogs which was not a poodle.
YUK … to them all
My dogs would be pissed if I even tried and they would certainly let me know how aggravated they are. I would be snubbed for weeks. They would cut the love off to me. Seriously.
I think that is horrible. Pets are loving, caring and royal
and someone has the need to put toxins in their body?
those are one of the worst type of toxins too.
I wouldn’t even think about doing that to my dog.
btw- if your dogs name is missy.. so is mine (: except shes a golden retriever.
duh because the dog has to like match their like hand bag like you know?
*note sarcasm*
makes me sick people like that shouldnt be aloud near dogs let alone have one
your right
I would never dye my dogs. I like them the color they are!
Why do humans die their hair sometimes? Isn’t it possible that after a while they got tired of looking at the color of their dogs hair and thought it would look cool another color?
Let me add this though: I think dyeing a dog is really stupid… I’m not saying I’d do it. Just answering your question.
I once saw a white Sibe dyed ENTIRELY pink. I almost vomited on the site. I used to work with a groomer who dyed her dog in dog-safe dye according to the holiday. It was a white Poodle who she used for grooming competitions. I guess, given her profession, it was a little more acceptable, as it was kind of an art form to her and the dog had no ill side effects. However, the average dog owner must be out of their mind to go to the trouble to dye a creature whose favorite pass time is playing in mud puddles.
