Celebrating Halloween is a Christian attitude?
Traditionally, it was known as All Hallow's Eve, when the dead were recalled. Over time, became the cultural. For Americans, it has been marketed. Unfortunately, the emphasis on this holiday trade increased cowboys and Indians with little attraction even worse and all the horrible things done and pagans. Satan has certainly made this holiday into something subtly marketed focused on children to dress as ugly demonic creatures.
Samhain. Many believe the festival of Samhain is the beginning of the Celtic year. At Samhain, the peasants brought cattle to summer pastures and the people united to build shelters for the winter. The festival also had religious significance and people burning fruits, vegetables, cereals, and perhaps animals as offerings to the gods. In the old Celtic stories, Samhain was a magical moment of transition when major battles were fought and fairy spells. There was a time when the barriers between the natural and the supernatural have been broken. The Celts believed the dead could walk among the living at that time. During Samhain, life can visit the dead, they said held secrets of the future. Specialists believe that the combination of Halloween with ghosts, food and divination began with these pagan customs over 2,000 years.
Toussaint and the Day of the Dead. pagan customs of the Celts survived many even after people were "Christianized". In 800 AD, the church established All Saints Day on 1 November. Some two hundred years later, added the All Saints Day Nov. 2. This day was reserved for people to pray for their friends and relatives who had died. People have many pagan customs part of this Christian holy day old. Some people bring food to their ancestors or they left a lantern burning in the window so that the ghosts can find their way home at night. Over the years, various parts of Europe have developed their own customs of Halloween. Wales, for example, each person has a white stone near Halloween night and the fire is checked then the morning to see if the stone was still there. If it were, the person to live another year.
Halloween in the United States. Many early American settlers came from England and brought to various beliefs of ghosts and witches with them. In 1800, many immigrants from Ireland and Scotland came to America and presented their traditions of Halloween. Other groups have added their own cultural influences to Halloween customs. German immigrants brought a living tradition of witchcraft, and Haitian and African peoples brought their native voodoo beliefs in black cats, fire, and witchcraft.
We recognize that this can be a very controversial topic. Some Christians think Halloween only as a day of dressing in costume and fun. Other Christians regard Halloween as Satanic tourism of worship evil mind and to promote the darkness and evil. So who is right? Is it possible for Christians to participate in Halloween without compromising their faith?
Halloween, whatever the market has almost completely pagan origins. As innocent as it may seem to some, is not something to take lightly. Christians tend to have multiple ways to celebrate or not celebrate Halloween. For some, this means having an "alternative" Harvest Party. For others, stayed away from the ghosts, witches, goblins, etc, and bad costumes less than or pagan, for example, little princesses, clowns, cowboys, superheroes, etc. Some choose to do nothing, shut himself elected in the house with the lights off. With freedom as a Christian, you are free to decide how to react.
Scripture does not speak directly to all the day of Halloween, but it gives us some principles which we can make a decision. In the Old Testament Israel, witchcraft is a crime punishable by death (Exodus 22:18, Leviticus 19:31, 20:06, 27). The New Testament teaching on the occult is clear. Acts 8:9-24, the story of Simon, shows that occultism and Christianity do not mix. The account of the magician in Acts Elimas 13:6-11 reveals that sorcery is violently opposed to Christianity. Paul called a child of the devil, enemy of justice and corruption in the way of God. In Acts 16, in Philippi, a girl of good Adventure lost her demon powers when the evil spirit was driven by Paul. What is interesting here is that Paul refused to allow even statements of what will come from a person with demonic influence. Acts 19 shows new converts who have abruptly broken with their former occultism by confessing, in his poor showing shares, so their magic paraphernalia, and burning before the whole world (Acts 19:19).
So if a Christian celebrate Halloween? Is there anything bad about of a Christian princess dress or cowboy and going around the block asking for candy? No, it is not. Are there things about Halloween that are anti-Christian and should be avoided? Of course! Parents, if you allow your children to participate in Halloween, make sure to prevent participation in the darker aspects of the day. If Christians take part in Halloween, attitude, clothing, and most importantly, their behavior should still reflect a redeemed life (Philippians 1:27). There are many churches that have harvest festivals "And incorporate costumes, but in a lot. There are many Christians who hand out leaflets to share the Gospel with the Halloween candy. The decision is final you does. Go to God in this matter is clear: "Be holy, for I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). "God is light and in him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:05 b).
God has commanded us to have nothing to do with anything that resembles the occult, Satanism, or the participation of the spiritual world through the use of media, seances, Ouija boards, horoscopes, tarot cards, channeling, etc. It takes into account all these factors, an abomination (Deuteronomy 18:9-12, Isaiah 8:19-20, Galatians 5:20, Revelation 21:8), and those involved in such things to disasters (Acts 19:13-16).
