Pets dress up in hopes of getting adopted – The Times Leader reports

Some playful pups dressed up as elves and had their festive collars on… but it was all for a purpose. Modified K9, a pit bull rescue group, sponsored a Canine Santa event in an attempt to start the adoption process for some pit bulls. Derek Zelinski, co-founder and vice president of Modified K9, says that before owning any type of dog, owners should do research. Modified K9 has information on every dog that’s up for adoption. Michelle Rossini, co-founder of Modified K9, says that there are some tips to keeping your new pit bull safe from other dogs. She says that not all dogs want to be friends with other dogs. Dog parks can be overwhelming for pups that haven’t been slowly integrated with other dogs. Rossini flips through picture books of a few dogs. One dog, Mr. Beans, almost had to have his front paws amputated due to abuse, but he was able to pull through and now he is adopted to a family. Many of the dogs that were at the Canine Santa event are victims of abuse. For more tips on adopting and owning a pit bull, go to www.modifiedk9.org. There’s also success stories of pit bulls that have been adopted. The Canine Santa event was held at Valley Dog in Larksville on Saturday, December 17.
