Director Kevin Lima, said "the place to maintain an awkward size as it was in the past, we wanted to give an emotional aspect that would add to the emotional story arc. We wanted the audience to see their feelings instead of his pranks. "
The main characters in this film, especially Goofy, Goofy Max, Pete and PJ, are based on its incarnations in the program Goof Troop TV, but only a little more. In the TV series, Max and PJ were university students, but in this film, which portrays are like older adolescents. However, other characters he had created in Goof Troop does not appear in this film, as the wife of Pete pin, his pistol daughter, and pets Waffles and chainsaws. Goofy and Pete keep it beautiful classic cartoons from the decade of 1940 compared with the appearance they had in the 1950 cartoon and Goof Troop.
Although based on a Disney television series, the production of a film was treated by Walt Dingo Disney Feature Animation, Walt Disney instead of entertainment television.
