What do you think of dressing up pets?

Normally I find it annoying, but I got this orange striped tee shirt at Old Navy for my pug today, and he looks absolutely darling in it, like a pig in a blanket. :)

I think its silly..but it certainly causes no harm, and dogs like to be silly!
My nieces used to dress their little dogs in doll’s clothes, and take them out in a baby buggy to the post office, daily..the dogs were always excited to get dressed and go…Great, silly, fun!

(Not just a fad..my nieces did that in the 1960′s)

if you are over the age of adulthood then i would be ashamed of admitting to that kinda behaviour

It is really cute they also have a bag that you can carry them in that looks like a purse.

I have a pug too and she loves to dress up. I can’t wait to dress her up in her bumble bee costume for Halloween. :)

I guess its ok if its not all the time. BUT… I think it goes to the heart of the issue, that tiny dogs are now fashion accessories for people, not animals. I find it sick when people put their animals in purses and dress them up constantly. Dogs are dogs, and even though we treat them like part of the family there are just some things we shouldn’t do. One shirt is fine though I think, for special occasions.

it is borderline abuse in my opinion.

and funnily the people who cry about animal rights the loudest are the ones buying freakin sweaters for their dogs.

yeah your dog really enjoys wearing that.

i am with jay leno on this one

    kawaii (cute)

I think it looks g@y but it depends on how the pet looks and the clothing looks

If the animal can put up with it, and it looks good, I guess it’s fine. Most of the time I think it looks ridiculous. However, a LONG time ago there was a promotion at Dairy Queen, where you could get a sundae in a miniature football helmet. I put them on my cat and they fit perfectly (don’t worry, I took the ice cream out first).

    it just wrong!

If he doesn’t mind it and it’s not making him uncomfortable, then it’s fine.

  13. JayJay says:

In most cases I think it is cruel. Those poor animals look so uncomfortable and half the time look so happy when you take it off.

But if the little guy’s used to it or doesn’t run around happy when you take it off, no harm done.

well honestly I USED to hink it was absolutly ridiculous…then I got a pug & weeeellll, I cant help it, she looks SOOO freakin cute & she LOVES it!!! she doesnt wear clothes all the time but she does have a few different items & I plan to get her more, currently she has a hot pink polo, a littel yellow EAster dress, a white bath robe, & a red winter jacket/coat w snowmen on it…she gets all excited when I dress her up & honestly she loooks just too cute! I dont think shes a child or anything like that but in the winter she needs a bit more to help her keep warm when we go for walks & honestly she looks too cute in T’s & polos to not put her in them….boy if I the teenage me ever knew the adult me I would have laughed at me & called me stoopid!! LOL LOL

you can never play with your dog too much even if it means he has to wear clothes! :)

that’s so cute. i have 2 chihuahuas and i have put tee shirts on them in the winter. but they didn’t like it .

  18. Clemence J says:

it depends upon whether it will be uncomfortable for the animal and whether it would cause the animal to become to hot/cold etc….other than that is shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think your dog knows nor cares what he looks like. But do NOT dress him up if if the clothes are stiff/will make him itchy/uncomfortable etc… Also do NOT keep them on all day. Just for short periods of time.

    Humiliating!! Poor animals!!
The only reason people do this to their animals is so everyone looks at their poor poochie in some ridiculous outfit. UGH!!!!

I don’t think it is harmful to the pet though. Just knocks their self esteem down to a negative number…..

we dress up our rat terreirs all the time. they love it…especially in winter, becasue they have thin fur and get cold easily.

I dress up my Yorkie sometimes when we go to town. He has lots of clothes like his Harley coat and cap,Born In The USA tee shirt and lots of sweaters. He even has a bathrobe with hood. He’s not to crazy about his boots but they do keep his paws dry.And all I have to say is ‘Let’s fix your hair"and hes on the footstool waiting. But ladies beware…don’t let your man carry the little cutie…they are babe magnets. At an outing one time I turned around and my husband had six women surrounding him and oohing and aahing over little Toby.I don’t know which one of them enjoyed it more.
