Why is my boyfriend so fasicanted with everything?

I’ve been with my boyfriend for about almost a year now. He’s 27 and a helicopter pilot for living. He’s a great guy and I really love him and everything. But I dont get something about him.

He seems to be so fasicanted by everything around him. He would chase and catch a bug, frog, rodent, or whatever and keep them for a hour or two then let it go, collect weird kind of pets such as odd fish, sand lizard, unique lizards, frogs, etc… He also want to meet every dogs he see. If we hike, he’d stop to gawk at every odd plants, trees, or whatever.

It’s impossible to walk pass a insect, map, artwork, etc… without him stopping to look at it. He can spend whole day in a museum easily.

He also have a room that he call his museum. It have all kind of odd objects from around world such as skull, mask, knives, costume, skeleton keys, painting, books, crafts, fossils, bones, etc…

Why is he like this? This is kinda odd to me.

As long as he is learning from it , there is nothing wrong. He is just curious about the world around him.

    I’d appreciate it.
If he is really so detail-oriented he probably pays a lot of attention to you too. ;)

It might just be a hobby for him? Maybe he likes learning… if it is a problem for you and the relationship then I think it would be worthwhile discussing it…

it’s just that he’s more abstract than other people….you know it could be something a lot more creepy (weird porn, fetish, drugs, alcohol, violence, Republican) you know, just consider it one of the things that makes him, him! : ) it shouldn’t affect your relationship too adversely, i mean try to get into some of it with him, or find something you both equally like… good luck!

Maybe it’s just part of his hobbies/interests? I don’t find it that odd, I guess because I know people like that… and my boyfriend has unique interests, too. I love that about him though. It’s cute. :)

Why not lightly/jokingly (but kindly) ask him about it while he’s at it? Learn from him? :)

My man’s like that, too, not with the "room", but when hiking or whatever what should take 5 minutes takes 5 hours. There are skulls and arrowheads around the house tho. Every weird find comes home. I guess I just put it down to his inquisitive nature, he is a journalist. Don’t freak out when I say this, but read up on Aspergers syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. People who have these conditions can act like this but be so high-functioning they lead pretty normal lives, and can have high IQ’s.

It’s something he has kept from his childhood. He can see the wonder in everything so he’s gathered a little bit of the whole world in his Muesum. He likes to know what makes things tick and he does this by observing the world. He doesn’t just see a map he sees something made with purpose, talent etc.

He sounds awesome! I think we all start off like that as kids and you lose it as you get older,I’d prefer my boyfriend to be Fascinated and enchanted than cynical and aloof. If you get sick of him i’ll give you my number.

This is exactly how I am as well. It is simply a matter of being intrigued by the world around you rather than walking past it day-after-day. All of these miniscule-appearing things around us contribute so much to our daily lives in one way or another. I always stop to look at an unfamiliar flower and I also chase down insects. I observe everything there is to observe around me. It is an appreciation of all the things that make up our world… not just bugs, lizards, and plants, but culture as well. It is really quite amazing how even humans interact so differently when secluded from new-age society.

You treat this like it is a burdon… "gawk at every odd plants…"

    I consider it a quality… but maybe I am biased. :)
